Sheffield and Manchester

Last Friday we went to Sheffield for Harvey’s 4th birthday party. Saturday, after shopping we popped down to Harvey’s friends birthday party to watch the Magician, who was doing tricks and making balloon figures. He was funny, making the children (and me) laugh! Back in the house I helped Jonny make the birthday cake, it was the first time we had met and I didn’t expect that our first activity would be making an orange dragon cake!!!!!!!!!! Pretty cool though.

At dinner Jonny gave me a welcome to England present…guess what? UK flag boxer shorts with a queen card! Amazing isn’t it? During the evening the boys (me, Mark, Jonny, Sue’s dad) went out to play golf at the driving range. In Rwanda golf is only for the very posh, so this was my first time and so don’t think I did too bad considering. Then we had a pint on the way home.

Sunday was party day and so Harvey woke us up very early to open his presents! After that we went to church, then I met Marks’ parents who came for dinner before the party. Many children came around with their parents for the party to play on the bouncy castle. I had already tried it out that morning, having fun with Finlay, Harvey and Jonny bouncing around and showing the boys how to somersault. I liked Sheffield, much bigger than Northwich, but it was very cold!

Then I ventured out to another big city on my own (getting braver now) It was my first time on a train and it was fast, like sitting in a plane! I was being a tourist for the day, went to an art gallery, Manchester United stadium (Old Trafford) and the Trafford centre, which is amazingly massive and posh. I’d arranged to meet a Rwandese friend there, who was my guide for the day, showing me all the cool shops and places to hang out. In Manchester there were so many African people it was like being in Kigali!
