How to prevent auto-linking

How can I prevent text being parsed and displayed as links? For example, in a recent entry I was writing how I walked 3 Miles to a Mountain and then saw a Volcano. The words "Miles", "Mountain" and "Volcano" all got a capital first letter and made into a link. Furthermore, I was writing about how I arrived in the city Batad and this was converted and shown as [[Philippines/Batad]]. Trying to edit the entry to fix it, it is automatically changed back as I save. Is there a way or setting to just get rid of all this auto-linking? I found one way around to make one of the letters in the word italics, but this is not very pretty...
