Pottering around in Prince Rupert

A 15 hour ferry ride from Port Hardy on the northern coast of Vancouver Island took us to Prince Rupert. The ferry ride was long but quite comfortable. We didn't have a cabin, but made the corner of the restaurant our base for the entire trip. When we boarded the ferry in Port Hardy (had...

Quadra Island

As we are making our way up Vancouver Island to Port Hardy to take the ferry to Prince Rupert, we had planned to make a stop at Victoria’s friend Barry who lives on Quadra Island just off Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Barry and his wife Adrienne had graciously offered us (or perhaps...

'Pre-camp' in Parksville

So we are finally off! After a few weeks of frantically packing, organizing (?) storing, cleaning and re-packing, the car is loaded and we are setting off. The plan was to first spend a few days on Vancouver Island close to civilization to test out all the camping gear before we head up...

Good Golly Miss Molly...

So, I have 19 1/2 hours left before I head on out, and I gotta say- my nerves are really getting to me. I'm nervous needless to say. Really nervous. I've been planning this for about a year, so it always just seemed so far away- very unreal. Now, the time has finally come- and it just hit me...

It's Crunch Time!

So, almost everything is in check now after a good year of planning. I have my student visa, I have my student I.D number, and I have my tickets. With just nine days left before I leave, I'm getting pretty nervous. Will the trip there be safe? Will I be picked up at the airport? Am I going to...

Day 1

With everyone already out at the campsite we headed out early and stopped at Tim Hortons on our way. We had a good drive and arrived just in time for the tail of end of breakfast. MMMM pancakes. It was only 10 am but the weather was hot so we headed down to the lake with the air mattresses....
