A Long Day, Well Worth It

(September 2) Once again, we were up well before dawn. Amazingly, so was the staff at our wonderful hotel, who had prepared us breakfast at 3:30 a.m.! Now that's service. Shortly after 4 a.m., Gustavo, our driver for this leg of the journey (too much to do in one day by bus) arrived and we...

Utila 2

Well I ended up staying for almost four weeks in Utila which is much longer than I had originally planned, but as Jonny had said to me before I went away, it was definitely the most fun month of my life! I continued my relaxed lifestyle for another week or so, just exploring the town adn doing...

Utila

The next morning Emily, Marcus and I began a very long day of travelling which started with a boat to Puerto Barrios, then a taxi to the border followed by a bus to San Pedro Sula and then another bus to La Ceiba. We started at about 8:30am and didn't stop moving until about 9:00pm that evening...

Montana de Caleque Waterfall

What an exceptional day! We left about 7:00 this morning. Caught a tuck-tuck (taxi made out of a 3 wheeler) to the visitors center and then started hiking. We left the bottom of the mountain from the visitors center at 8:00. It took us 2 1/2 hours to climb to the "cascada" waterfall. We...

To the mountains!

We have made the trip now from Utila to La Ceiba to San Pedro Sula to Copan Ruinas and back to La Entrada to Gracias. It has been fun though! We traveled by bus...so many connections. We are getting better with our spanish although today I think we hit overload. Spent 2 days looking at 2...

Just an update!

It has been very exiting here! We are trying to be as much of the culture as we can be. We have been to baseball games, (not so different from the ones at home but more fun!), been to 2 different churches and participated in a Harvest Festival here in Utila. Have not been diving in a few days...

Diving in Utila

We dove twice yesterday. The water is absolutely beautiful! It is about 84-86 degrees. Bath water! Among the 2 seahorses, 10,000 hookworms, and the 6 pipefish, the aquatic scene is just breathtaking!!!!! The reef is gorgeous and full of life. We are looking forward to doing some more...

Diving in Utila

We finally made it! Our flight from Miami was delayed, our flight from San Pedro Sula to LaCieba cancelled, our backpack didn't make the trip until 2 days later and no reservations for us (made over a month ago) but we made it! And we are so happy to be here in Utila. We are staying at the...

Tegucigalpa

In the capital city of Tegucigalpa, doing some planning for the rest of the trip and stopped in a bookstore this morning. Of course most of it's in Spanish but found a lot of good material on subjects I'm trying to learn more about such as economic, social and ecological factors affecting the...

El Carib

Yesterday, explored around and stayed overnight in the Afro-Caribbean Garifuna village Triunfo de la Cruz, a short distance along the coast from where I am now in Tela. Very chill with practically no tourists. Checked out the local live music at a disco on the beach and this morning I visited...
