Day 10 -The Taj Ma-Holy crap!- (6/27/2009)

Oh.My.God. What a frickin awesome day. So I wake up in Delhi this morning around 4:00am shower and head to the train station to catch my 5:30am train to Agra. While on this short 3 hour journy I got kicked out of sitting on the two lower berths by an old Pakistani mother.... Retarded because...

Mooching in Manali

On the bus to Manali we experienced a fantastic example of Indian driving. A lorry had stopped in the middle of the road, causing our bus to come to a standstill just behind it. No sooner had we stopped than the lorry started reversing. The bus driver started frantically beeping the horn, but I...

Day 9 (6/26/2009)

So today I arrive in NEW DELHI! And all I can say is... Arriving in New Delhi at 3 in the afternoon beats the hell out of arriving in Kolkata at 1 in the morning... By far. Also, New Delhi would have been a WAY better starting point for my adventures in India because it's such a nice step up...

Day 8? (6/25/2009)

Oh man, I'm starting to miss home. sike. Today I was supposed to wake up before sunrise (4:30am ish) and head to the ghats. It's now 6:00am and I'm just rolling out of bed. So I miss the sunrise and meeting up with nick, the Australian dude from the night before. I still head to the river...

Day ... Uh... 7! Day 7. (6/24/2009)

Oh my god. Past three days have been hella rough. This is what I've been up to. Monday I woke up at 3:30am and checked out and got to the airport around 4:30am to leave for New Delhi. I had like 4 or 5 flights that I could standby on. I get there, get to the ticket agent and they won't accept...

Quotes I like

"We who live on the outer crust of a planet rotating its way through endless space, belong to the most tragical and critical of all its eras. That is why we must begin to search for its meaning to us. To discover what that is and to reorient our lives accordingly could make the impending era...

Happenings and Ponderings

Anchok just came over to my tent, and we sat in silence for a little while. Now he is rummaging thru my things. Wow, that looked like it might have been the first time he has ever worn a pair of sunglasses! It is unimaginable to me to not wear eye protection in this intense sunshine, but I...

Okay, back to a few travel highlights

The Padma Guest House (thanks to Dan and Kathlyn for the stellar recommendation) in Leh is a fascinating blend of traditional Ladakhi living and Western comforts. It is apparent that the family who owns and runs the place is making an effort to both preserve their way of life and also to...
