A little recovery

Last night after I had already written the blog entry we stayed up late drinking with some of locals on the beach, one even sneakily stealing a bottle of our wine!! So today we were a little tender slowly doing some work taking a little rest bite on the beach occasionally; Chris doing a...

Already getting stuck in

Chris is quite in his element here in Trev's and Jo's resort already taking over the kitchen sharpening knives for hours and cooking his first Filipino dish, whilst I've been trying out my Excel skills drafting out spreadsheets and researching Valentine Menus!

Flying...

At just gone 1am we boarded our flight to Manila, the capitol of the Philippines which took around 3 1/2 hours. When we arrived in Manila there was very little to do but take little power naps and drink rubbish coffee for 7 hours before our next flight to Tuguegarao...

Sagada - Baguio - Manila

I do some early morning sightseeing of Sagada, then leave on a 6 hour bus to Baguio. The views are even more spectacular today. We're driving over mountains, rivers, through clouds, rice terraces and all sorts of plantations. I spend the afternoon sightseeing Baguio, it's a pretty big town. At...

Caving in Sagada

I spend the morning sightseeing Banaue, then hang out with Steve and Adrian for a while until our jeepney leaves to Sagada (mountain adventure capital). We arrive Sagada about 2pm after driving along some pretty spectacular scenery. Steve and Adrian go to bed, and I meet a guide who suggest we...

I never want to hear the word "landslide" again

After breakfast at 6am, a 60 year old village man named Yun says he'll take me for a walk along some Mountain trails. It's been pouring down heavy rains all of yesterday afternoon and night, so it's very muddy and slippery. After about an hour hike we're almost back in the village, when I...

Getting to Batad

I arrive Banau''e'' around 5am. It's a town about 9h north of Manil''a'', in the Philippin''e'' mountai''n''s at about 3500ft. I'm determined to go to the mountai''n'' village of Bata''d'', but due to the typhoon last week, a series of landslides have closed the roads up to the...

Manila

I land at 3.30am in Manila after a ~13h flight. After passing immigration, I realize that I printed the wrong page from Wikitravel, I printed only an overview of Manila, so I have no detailed information or maps. Moreover, no information is available at the airport. I wait for daylight then take...

Sniff, it is over.

GROOVESPOOK: I have Sarah's loaned backpack on, once more (huge props!!) and am leaning back against it on the bed at Hedefes Cottages, prepped and ready to go.  I am super sad.  Said goodbye to "grandma", the lady in charge of these huts overlooking El Nido bay.  Watched Nuttter, my...

Snorkeling is so passe

GROOVESPOOK: We did not end up doing "the same thing tomorrow" after all my brandishing of the word SNORKELING from the last post. Oh no. We happened to pass a small shop whilst idling down the streets of El Nido and, written on a blackboard was the phrase "Affordable day of diving - no...
