APB: Send sympathy vibes to Carl! Poor kid's had a rough stint...

Yes, strike three and he's down for the count: 1) Mysterious ankle injury set in in Ha Long Bay - could it have been from the back flips off the top of the boat?! Not helped by the fact that we never get a walking-free day, but he was managing well enough. 2) Cold. Who gets a cold when it's...

The cool side of Vietnam

Apparently it has been a while since I’ve posted . . . I guess I was preoccupied with physical aliments for a bit, but I’m up and around again (sort of). Well, since Joc and Vivian did a great job of keeping everyone apprised of what we were up to, I don’t have to put a lot of info here, but...

Da What?

We are in the mountains, and boy is the temperature change a welcome break - I am wearing pants!!! There was an article in the WSJ a few years ago about this town - it was developed in the late 1800s by a protege of Louis Pasteur. Apparently it's the top honeymoon destination in Vietnam, though...

shhhhhh!!!

After another early morning wakeup, Joc, Carl, and I decided that we had had enough. I guess there's only so much street noise (continuous honking), screaming children running up and the down the stairs in the hotel, a neighbor unfortunately coughing up a lung, morning propaganda on the street...

So long, Vietnam!

Today marked the beginning of the end for me, as I'm now in the home stretch of my trip. Parting ways with Vivian, Carl, and Jocelyn was really quite sad - they are such a great travel "family," and we've had so much fun together! It was really a privilege to spend the majority of my vacation...

You know you're dirty when...??

...a kitten climbs on top of your shoulders and starts grooming your ponytail? Against doctor's orders - "under no circumstances - no matter how cute they are, whether they're dogs, cats, horses, cows, whatever - do not, I repeat, do not, pet them" - I gave in to holding and petting a kitten...

And then there were three

Fond farewells to Ms Jennie McConaghy, who left today to begin the journey home - we'll miss you! We're wrapping up two quick days in Nha Trang, a beach down just south of the demilitarized zone. Despite its potential historical intrigue, Nha Trang has been a place of semi-relaxation for us...

Turns out I'm not a very good pool player . . .

So, since my last post, we have left Hoi An, the tailoring capital of SE Asia. For more on how our tailoring experience turned out, read Joc and Vivian's blog entries. I refrained from spending too much money on the process, but our group as a whole spent a lot of time and money getting...

Haute Couture

It turns out that getting things tailor-made takes a decent amount of time. Essentially, it ended up being the main activity for us in Hoi An. A quick process synopsis... *Phase 1: Design Doodling Step 1 - You sift through giant catalogs searching for a style/clothes. Step 2 - Sales person...
