Demilitarized Zone - 56 kilometers from Seoul

November 6 Saturday At 7:30am we left the hotel by bus for the DMZ, traveling out from Seoul into a countryside of fields. Beside the expressway ran barbed wire which became higher as we drove north. Before we were allowed to enter the Demilitarized Zone, a soldier of South Korea, the ROK,...

From Fukuoka, Japan to Busan, Ulsan and Seoul, South Korea

Up early November 5 for a 8am flight to Seoul, we rose into clouds and descended into Seoul's milky smog a scant 40 minutes later. The several subway rides, with transfers, from Gimpo domestic airport into the city took at least twice that long. By 2:30pm we had hauled our luggage along urban...

Last lunch in Korea

Close to the Incheon airport (the airport is on a island) and on the seaside, it was time to try another barbecue. This time with sea shells, clams. To be honest, I don't know almost any of them. As always, you can choose what you want from the tank. And the lady is preparing everything for...

Error! Try again....

As you can see, I encountered a "small" problem in the hotel. I could not resist taking a picture of it. The young generation of koreans is not small as one could think they are. In fact they told me the japanese are smaller than them. In the Seoul underground I could see one or two young...

Market...

Before leaving Seoul for Daegu in the south east, a small visit to one market. You'll find anything you might think about and what you will not think about also. According to the locals, everything is always good for your health.... from Ginseng ... to any kind of fish After that, I tried...

Electronics

Visiting South Korea without checking the last products available in electronics seems to me to be a nonsense. Here is one of those "markets" full of it. 2 floors only for cellphones, 2 for computers, 2 for cameras, ..., total = 12 floors of paradise for electronic fashion victims and/or for...

First visit in Seoul

The next day we started to visit Seoul a bit and visited in the afternoon the Gyeongbok palace. The guards luckily let us in, so we could see how beautifull the place is... On the way back to the hotel, this petrol station caught my eyes.

First thing first....

After a loooong travel, the first thing was to get some strength by going to a local restaurant. It was a succession of small dishes one better than the other. This is just a small example.

Korea Is Not China

Tonight at dinner, I found myself clutching a pair of long metal chopsticks in my right hand, and a long metal spoon in my right, and using both to shovel into my mouth the little apetizer-type dishes of kimchee, bean sprouts, cole slaw, pickled onions/garlic/jalepenos, and the main dish of rice...

First 24 Hours in South Korea

Yesterday, early in the morning, I left my house in Kunming, finally found a cab, and flew with all of my tons of stuff to Seoul. After a lay-over in Shanghai, I got into Korea in the late afternoon, and found that I could no longer use Chinese to get around. Despite this, I managed to...
