goooolllldddd!

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

From a distance it glows, beckoning for eyes to adore its splendor. In the old part of Deira lies a maze of glisten jewels, called the "Gold Souk." Windows frontages drip with this color and every women is pressed against the glass to get a closer look. It is truly the old Dubai and as a participant in its chaos, you can notice and sense that this part has evolved more organically over time. Which is unlike any other area of Dubai. Importing, shipping, water taxis, tourists, expats roaming these blocks of traditional architecture all join at the mouth of the Dubai Creek. We walked through the historical streets that eventually dump on to the wider, faster, harsh streets of the modern Dubai. Exhausted.....in more ways than one.

Just a chance to breath

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Well to begin with I am living in old Dubai, Deira. 70's architecture, near the canal and a world of traffic. No wonder they want to build a rail line, it's worse than LA and NY combined.

The apartment is comfortable and close to many things....including the latest Bin Laden construction site and adjacent to the Moscow Hotel...which I've been warned to avoid, the gold souk, Dubai creek and one shopping mall after another.

Work

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Indeed this is hard to believe, but we travel over half an hour depending on the traffic to arrive at a green building in the middle of the desert. We are driven to and from, I have to admit having a personal driver is ...great! It's a barren, really really barren...except for the occasional camel crossing.
