Nessy's First Entry

Jinotega, Nicaragua

It's finally Nessy's turn to write. I want to tell you that I love Nicaragua because every 2 or 3 days a tree ripe fresh mango drops off the neighbors tree that's over our house. It sounds like a bomb when it crashes on the roof, you know the kind of roof that looks like a wavy ruffle chip, and lands in our little patio right outside our back door. The mangoes are small, sweet and perfect.

I also wanted to tell you about a Return Visit that I have and what happened to his family. A few years ago they moved to Jinotega and found a house they wanted to buy that the owners were in a hurry to sell. Which I say house but it's more like an outbuilding that you would see in Buckingham with a dirt floor.

The owners quickly did the paperwork and the family moved in. What they didn't know about the house was that there was a concrete hatch in the floor. The hatch was poorly sealed and what it covered was an old septic tank. The uncle, who was a large man, unknowingly stood on the concrete lid and it collapsed under him. The fumes were so overpowering that before the firefighters could get him out he died. Three of the firefighters that were exposed to the fumes died as well. The Young man telling us the story about his uncle was about 25 years old and after telling us this story he used a local expression that went something like, “what can you do if it's God's will?” Jenny Bloxsom asked if he felt that it was something that God would want. He thought about it and drew the correct conclusion. We showed him James 1:13, 14 and reasoned that it is highly unlikely that God would drown a man in a septic tank to accomplish his will. He did appreciate the thought and is interested in knowing what is God's purpose for the Earth but I'll have to admit that's the first time I've had to reason on something like that!

Vanessa that is great that you guys are having such great calls. Are the people down there much more willing to listen? I was reading the article in the Sept. 1st Watchtower "A letter from Nicaragua" and it made me wonder if they have any problems with land minds in Jinotenga? Is this a problem in only certain areas? Have you seen the Coco river? How are you guys getting around down there? How far away is the hall and is this where you meet for service? Do you have a car, bike, or just carbon fiber walking sticks? We are both enjoying your blog. Thanks again for doing this.

Ha are the people more willing to listen? That's almost a silly question. Even when the people are not interested they still let the friends here read 3 scriptures a piece, it's incredible! Regrettably, I have yet to read that article and if there is information in there about land mines maybe I don't want to. I think that area is quite a distance from where we are right now. However, the war in 1980 did come through here. I was just talking with a sister this morning in service and she mentioned that there were bodies in many places right where we were working that morning. She mentioned that they through most of the corpses in a lake a couple of Miles a way. Great deal huh? I guess the fishing would have been good for the next little bit!

We've been walking around mostly. Which makes us sleep alot, I'm hoping we get over that quickly as we don't get much done, like reading the aforementioned magazine, because we're sleeping all the time! Anyway, gotta run. Take care man! :)

The mangos sound awesome :) I sounds like you guys are having some awesome experiences there. Are you able to understand people in the ministry generally? It seems like you have people to go out with you pretty regularly; how many other pioneers are there from other places helping out? I can't wait to see more of your adventures!

Shane and Nessy I just love looking at your blog. I look forward to it each week when I come to work. Shane, I loved the picture of the man plowing. Yes, I think that is the way we will do things in the New World. After all, it can be done without pollution and time will no longer be a factor. Anyway, I also saw the beauty of the countryside. And walking is not so bad when you think of it. It gives you time to consider Jehovah's creation and the exercise we all need. I bet you love that too Nessy. It is so nice to find people that love hearing about Jehovah and his wonderful promises. Materialism robs us of focusing on the important things in life and makes us too self-centered. Love and miss you, Doris
