Planning

Melbourne, Australia

We've confirmed the flight to China leaving on 16th Sept to 30th sept, arriving Beijing and exiting Shanghai. I've been quite busy looking up tour books, hotel bookings and enquiring about train rides between cities. There's a plethora of information out there on the net but who knows which sites are reputable and which ones are the scams! Right now I am trying to stick to the two sites, and also thinking about whether to fly the leg between Luoyang and Shanghai.

I've also bought the lonely planet guide book. It seems to be very useful, with many local maps where we can track down the location of the hotels we've booked and also the relative distances to the sights we want to see. I checked out the eyewitness travel guide, which contains many colourful pictures and intersting general facts, but not as detailed as the lonely planet in describing the sights.

There seems to be so many sights and so little time. We've got two weeks during the school holidays... can't wait! It'd be so exciting.

Caution - Booking internal Flights in Peru

Pucallpa, Peru

I’m currently in Peru, and the other day I wanted to book a flight from Pucallpa to Lima. As it was raining (a lot) so avoiding a hike into town, I logged on to the LAN Peru website (www.lan.com), and discovered when I tried using my UK credit card, the price was UK Pounds 88, looking at what it would cost using a US$ credit card the price was $88. So the UK price was DOUBLE….I could also assume that it would be similar for the Euro Zone……so Caveat emptor!

So if you are planning to book internal flights before you arrive in Peru, you would save a heap of money by doing that when you get to Peru.

Good Luck

Howard

Waiting for the ticket!

Sydney, Australia

So I would love to write how excited I am and how I'm getting all prepared to go and checking in with my visa and passport etc. BUT I'M NOT!

I am waiting for the ticket!

Interesting Story.....

My company recently had their Annual Charity Golf Day- in this day is an auction and Garuda were generous enough to donate a ticket to Jakarta, Indonesia. I bid on it, but once it got to $400 I was out. BUT I know the guy from garuda well so I said " If I ever need a ticket to Bali I will call you." This was on the 14th August. That very evening I get a call from my friend saying " I need someone to go to bali with me, wanna come?" Ummmmmmmmmmm FREAKY!

So I call my Garuda person to arrange the ticket, this is Monday 17th, AND THEN that Afternoon, I get an email from the man who bought the ticket stating he can no longer use it and would I like to buy it for $300 for Charity and he will donate the rest! AGAIN Hell yes!!

So all this good fortune and freakiness of coincidential events has lead to this..... me now discussing with Garuda to fly to Jakarta, or Bali, or Jakarta then bali, on the 17th or the 18th or come back on the 26th, wait I gotta be back on the 26th...... Argh!

So Monday is the day! COME ON BALI TICKET!

Let's get excited!

In the meantime I have managed to get in contact with the Vice President of the Balinesian Tourist Board through a friend in Indonesia.... Smooth sailing me hopes!
