Unable to add blogs at all

Hi,

We (chris_em) have been unable to upload entries for a couple of weeks now, everytime we try to upload an entry we get the "site under maintanence page" have tried refreshing, IE and Chrome with no success. I am guessing that bogabond isn't under maintance all the time? Any help would be great we are getting a long way behind on our blog :(

You're right. I dug into the error logs around the time you sent this and managed to recover your post (Eiffel Tower, Notre Dam (minus a hunch back)) intact. I went in, impersonating your account, tried to post it for you and saw the same error message.

I'll dig into this a bit further as soon as I get a chance. If I can fix the problem I certainly will, but regardless I'll make sure that blog entry goes live.

Sorry for the hassle, but definitely thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll let you know what I come up with.

OK, fixed.

Turns out it was Paris' fault. Sort of. You see, every time we add a blog entry to the site, we need to update the count of how many blogs, photos, etc. are in the target city. Usually, this is a quick matter, but for a city like Paris with its hundreds of blog entries and photos, it actually takes some time to figure out exactly how many of them are neither drafts nor spam, nor deleted, nor itinerary waypoints, but actual blog entries. And the way we were doing it wasn't very efficient to begin with.

So the short version is that now instead of taking a minute to update that stuff (and sometimes getting bored and giving up), it now takes about a tenth of a second. You may now commence blogging from a popular city without fear of reprisal from Blogabond!
