The Caribana festival is celebrated yearly in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is mainly to commemorate and dedicate to the Caribbean culture and traditions. Every summer millions of visitors are gathered on the street to enjoy this Caribbean style event on the Lakeshore of Toronto. It has become the North American’s largest street festival. It is usually celebrated from mid-July to the first week of August. The Caribbean Culture Committee (CCC) is actually a non-profit organization and it executes most of the existing events during the Caribana festival. During the Caribana festival more than a million people visit Toronto and it brings over $400 million into Ontario’s economy annually. The main event is the Caribana Parade which is a big street parade with lots of dancing. It gathers costumed dancers as well as live Caribbean music from different Caribbean nations. Let’s talk about the interesting styles of the Caribbean music which has charmed us with its rhythm. Starting with Calypso or Kaiso, it is an isolated relative of Blues, Jazz, Rap and Dub.
