Musician turns Hollywood Producer

Hollywood, United States

My DVD collection at home is so big, my buddies call me “E-buster.” Ever since I was a kid I’ve always been so intrigued by the thrill of the big screen. There were countless childhood summers where I would sit in front of my television and watch movie after movie after movie. I remember feeling so happy watching my favorite films like Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, Terminator, Hook, Batman, etc.

So my older brother, Noah, lives out in beautiful Los Angeles, California. He moved out there 15 years ago for college and now he has a beautiful family, not to mention a successful career. Last December, my sister and I flew over to So-Cal (for the first time!) to visit our brother and spend the holidays with him. Of course, Noah played the tour guide role and showed my sis and me all the landmark spots in LA—Rodeo drive, Downtown LA, Staples Center, Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, China Town, Disneyland, and my personal favorite, HOLLYWOOD. Music is my passion in life, but if there was a runner up, Movies & Film-making would be it. We went to Universal Studios, Hollywood which was exciting because never in my life have I felt so close to the movie-making process.

…That’s until I discovered “I Made A Movie.” A friend of Noah’s told him about a website where she became an associate producer and helped make decisions of the pre-production process of an up-and-coming film. Noah, being the amazing brother that he is, bought me the producer package as my birthday gift. Our trip to Universal Studios reminded him of my childhood fascination with movies.

I immediately visited the website www.imadeamovie.com and picked this awesome action movie. After signing up, I got my log-in info for a feature on the website called the Producer’s Lounge. This is where you can actually connect with the director and cast & crew members. This is the place where you also get to network and interact with other movie lovers. On my first day logging in to the Producer’s Lounge, no joke… I got to chat online with the Director of the film I chose. I was stoked! I honestly felt like Hollywood was right there on my finger tips.

I’ve only been working on this film for about six weeks, but so far I’m really enjoying every minute of it. It’s definitely been a distraction for me and my work. I had a list of songs I needed to compose for a children’s movie. Instead, I found myself glued to the Producer’s Lounge, watching all the raw footage and behind-the-scenes clips. The other day I got to vote on where the location of this one scene should be shot. I also watched audition clips for some of the potential actors and actresses and got to vote on who I thought would be the best match for the role.

From a career standpoint, I look at I Made A Movie as an opportunity where I could possibly meet directors and pass along my musical skills as something they might want to use in their films. Like I said earlier, I compose scores, songs, and melodies for a variety of clients. I’ve done commercials, short plays, and even smaller indie films. Hopefully there’s someone out there who would be interested in my musical expertise!

But anyways, I cannot wait to see the final product so that I can finally have a DVD in my collection that has my name on the credits. When I get the DVD in the mail, I plan on inviting friends over, having a small get together, pop in the movie, and see them freak out when they see my name in the opening credits. I definitely plan on signing up for another movie after this one. Whoever thought of this concept is pure genius. From now on, you don’t have to move to Hollywood to be a part of the movie-making process.
