Been a ride..

Smithtown, United States

i apologize in advance for not posting this entry sooner, I haven't been able to get on, otherwise I would have. friday night was the aftermath of one of the biggest snow storm this winter. in the morninig we accumulated six inches (I know, impressive), and by the evening the roads had been cleared by rain water. toward the evening the temperature dropped to 12-15 degrees. Heather and I had photo appointments at St. Andrews, Elly Georgia and bus decided to come along for the ride. Our appointment was for 9:20, it was about 9:10, church was down the road, so we weren't going fast. Maybe 30. My family was supposed to be there, but only heather and I could make it. I remember saying to her, "Well, I guess the two of make one big happy family", and she said to me, "Yeah, well, it's always us", at that moment we skated over black ice, my tires lost grip, and we were accelerating toward a tree. They say that it happens in an instant, that you don't have time to react. Well, it happened in slow motion for me, and I was able to gain a little bit of control over the car. They say that's what saved our lives that night. i could have lost Heather that night, the tree was facing her side of the car at first. i managed to shift the car a little bit so that the tree was facing the center of the car. I was also able to drive over dirt and tap theh breaks a little bit the last couple of seconds. all I remember after that is a popping sound, a blue bubble coming at me, and airbag dust everywhere. i saw the faces of my loved ones right before the collision, and I remember thinking, "No, not yet.."- Heather says that her thought was, "Oh, she's got this..".. All I know is that we were all able to walk away from it, and i'm walking away from this with a new lease on life. I'll be thinking about my loved ones before leavinig the house again. I'll be suppressing the risk-taker in me every once in a while as well..
