Venice is sinking and Jane is expanding

Venice really is an amazing place. Nothing quite prepares you for when you first come out of the main train station and see the canals for the first time. We found that after the magnificence of Florence, Venice had a much different character. Because we weren't there in peak tourist season,...

The watery city

We are up and away early which means we are first on the boat to Venice (or would have been if it was there) - first onto the square, first into the glassworks and almost first into MacDonald's for a cup of tea to recover. Went on a long boat ride on the lagoon and was not sick. I have been...

Trevi Fountain, Italy

Venice

We took the water ferry to our hotel. Bridge with shops. Gondola. Dali museum. St Marks Square. If we had to do it over, we'd start in Venice. Lots to see, and you need to do most on foot. Better to do it before Rome.
