When my baby smiles at me I go to Rio!

Couldn´t help the title - can´t help singing it as well!! We were wise this time and got a flight instead of hauling ourselves through another 24 hour bus ride. Our butts just couldn´t take it! As we were a week ahead of schedule we decided to head a little further north for a few days to...

last day in rio

Our last day in Rio. We went to see some of the most famous beaches in the world... the copa, Copacabana and ipanema. both big beaches, ipanema a bit smaller. Palmtrees, the atlantic, sand and beachvolleyball... they are very nice but it is in a very big city and you can feel it, it is not...

rain, strange weather, sunshine and a big christ

So, we are in Brazil, finally. It is the start of our big trip and it started with rain, rain and a bit more rain. It stopped during lunch though and we went out for a little walk, it took just around 6 hours. we live in a part called botafogo and we started by walking towards another part...

Carnavale!

The most noticable thing that struck me upon arrival in South America was my utter inability to either understand or comunnicate with locals. Obviously the fact that they speak a foreign language came as no surprise, but the genuine lack of English has come as a shock. Still, just 3 weeks...

Copacabana

Whenever I hear Barry Manilow's “Copacabana”, I always remember the happy beach located in Rio de Janiero Brazil. As the song connotes, Copacabana is one of the most laidback and joyful places I've ever been too. One of the most famous beaches in the whole world is Copacabana. The life of...

Carnival

Carnival, what a great experience. Being labeled as the biggest festival in the world Rio's carnival is amazing. Reid, Carla, Fu and I arrived in Rio in the early afternoon on Sunday. We drove straight to Sugar Loaf, which is the main rock overlooking downtown Rio and the harbor. Very amazing....

Day 19

At this point in the trip I stopped journaling, but my pictures reveal that I spent the day in Rio. I took the cable car up Sugarloaf but a hazy day made the view less than stunning -- one could barely see the Christ the Redeemer statue that is so symbolic of this city. I walked around...

Day 18 (cont.)

Upon arriving in Rio, I checked into a great hotel in Copacabana which actually cost less than the guidebook said!
