Recoleta es mas bonita y Iguazu falls

Hi all!

Well, the trip to recoleta was great. We went on tuesday, and I went again alone on wednesday (dont worry nana, I was perfectly safe) and it was brilliant. We walked around Cementerio de la Recoleta where all the rich and famous argentinians are buried, and saw evita perons grave. Which, I must admit I was expecting something else. It was amazing to see the cemetary though, we walked around for ages.

Had lunch in the strangest irish theme pub, what they served i´m sure the irish don´t make. But anyways.

The next day went out on my own to see Naciones Unidas, which i found so beautiful..and shiny.

Moving on, that night we caught an 18 hour bus to Puerto Iguazu, which has the most awesome waterfalls. John did try and kill me with exercise. I can´t even describe how amazing it was, so I´ll just put in the pictures. Soon we´re heading off on a 28 hour bus trip to Salta.

Buenos Aires and Foz de Iguazu

Just to start, we wanted to say that we receive all the comments that you write without any problem... and we read it!! It is great to see that a lot of you follow us. Unfortunately we can´t answer all of them as they are comments only, but you can create your own adress on blogabond and send messages (those we can answer!).

On voulait just dire que l'on recoit bien vos commentaires que vous nous ecrivez... et meme on les lit!! C'est super de voir que beaucoup d'entre vous nous suivent. Malheureusement on ne peut pas repondre aux commentaires mais vous pouvez creer votre propre adresse sur blogabond et envoyer des messages (ca on peut repondre!).
En tout cas continuez a nous envoyer des messages et commetaires parce qu'on adore les lire...

AND NOW THE BLOG!!

So we are now in Argentina... Second country of our trip!!
We arrive in Buenos Aires a little bit less than a week ago and stayed there for two days...
As we always do, we went around town seeing as much as we can...the Palace of Congress, the big avenues, a demonstration, political graffitis on the street walls, the little Big Ben lookalike... and many more buildings that we don´t really remember the names of!! We also saw the famous pink palace where Evita and her husband used to live and where she used to come out on the balcony and be greeted by the population!

At night we wandered in the touristic streets of Buenos Aires and saw a great jazz/ska band called Pollerapantalon! Check it out if you can!

On the next day, just before taking our bus to Puerto Iguazu, we quickly went to see the grave of Evita in the Cimetery where most of the famous people from Argentina are buried... The graves are absolutely beautiful (in their own way) and rivalise with great sculptures.

After those two days in Buenos Aires we took the bus (20 hours of bus) to go to Puerto Iguazu where we are now... It is the main city from where you can visit the Foz de Iguazu, which is the world biggest waterfall.

So we arrived yesterday, very early in the morning and after finding a place to stay at night, we jumped in the bus going to the foz...
We started to go to see a part of the falls called El Garganta Del Diablo which means the Devil's Throat. It is a kind of hole where a big waterfall goes down to and because it is so

powerfull (there is some clouds of water coming from the hole), you can´t even see the bottom. It is very impressive... the nature really hides a lot of wonders!!

After seeing the Devil's throat we went to see other parts of the waterfalls.... first from the top and then from the bottom. there is so many waterfalls, you don´t know where to look next!!!

Along the way, we saw many strange animals called capotis!

We then went to see another view of the park from an island in the middle. After a short climb and a walk in the forest, you see one of the waterfall from the left side... but this view seems to be the closest you can get in the park... and it is beautiful...
The power delivered by the water when it splashes down is very very impressive...
You really don´t want to fall down!! It must be like being in a gigantic (and dangerous) washing machine!!!

After seeing all of those waterfalls, we went for a trek in the forest for about 7km return. It was a real pleasure to leave a bit the touristique part of the park (it is very touristique!!) and to be more in the nature. We heard and saw a lot of birds, we saw a Capivara which is the biggest rodant in the world (kind of mix between a big rat and a rabbit!)... but we missed to see jaguars who are supposed to live in those forest !! (they even give some leaflets at the entrance of the trek to tell you how to react if a jaguar sees you.... scary!!!)

After an hour of walk we arrive to a small waterfall (again!!!) very secluded... the water at the bottom was very clear but definitely too cold to swim in!!

We then return to the park, happy to have walked in the nature.

After a nice night of sleep, we are now getting ready for 20 more hours of bus to return to Buenos Aires, but we won´t stay there long as we plan to head for Mendoza in the wine region...

Dinner and Tango

After our long days of hiking we were looking forward to enjoying some city time. We had heard that Buenos Aires was the nicest city in South America with lovely European influences and we were certainly not disappointed!

We spent most of our days just wandering around the beautiful city and looking through all the lovely leather shops. Chris even managed to finally get himself a jacket. We saw the Casa Rosa, which is the parliamentary building where 'Evita' addressed her people.

We also saw many markets full of good quality handicrafts and antiques. What was also fantastic was walking through the streets of Buenos Aires seeing Tango perfomers as well as many fantastic musicians busking. We also had a nice lunch in the oldest cafe in Buenos Aires 'Cate Tortoni' where many famous people come to eat.

The eating in Buenos Aires is certainly the best in South America from what we'd experienced and also very reasonably priced. One night we went to a Tapas restaurant, where all they served were two options for dinner. One a vegetarian option and the other a 'normal' option. This consisted of 15 different dishes brought out over 2-3 hours. We had a bottle of wine to go with it and walked away with change from $20- not bad!!

Another great meal was the purported best steakhouse in Argentina (big claim given how many steakhouses there are here and how good they are). It was expensive by Argentinian standards, but certainly the best steak we've EVER tasted. Certainly worth the money.

Of note as well was the suburb of Recoletta. This is the most swankiest suburb in Buenos Aires and houses the famous Recoletta cemetry where Evita is buried. We only got to have a look from the outside as we were more interested in the markets outside and were really hot! From what we could see though, the cemetry was pretty ornate. All the tomb stones were amazing and like religious shrines. (Don't worry, we're not people who normally look through cemetries, it is a tourist attraction!)

We spent a good 9 days in Buenos Aires relaxing and shopping and generally just enjoying ourselves. We were tired from our journey through South America and spent quite a lot of time reminiscing over what a great trip we had. We were also very much looking forward to coming back to Australia to see our families and friends for Christmas.

Next stop.....Canberra!!

Hi everyone!

Where to start?! I reckon food would be a good place to begin!... Me and Billy have been sampling the parrillas/asados which are grills/roasts. Meals have included black pudding, spicy sausage, pig´s tails and veal kidneys, all served from a guy single handedly manning a barbecue, spit and grill and served up at the table on a kind of mini barbecue. Other foodie highlight has been the rather amazing egg custard flans, I have become addicted to them and have had five in the last week. Billy is keen on the empenadas, little meat and veg pasties you can get everywhere. I also like Dulce de Leche-a sweet caramel spread which is good on bread for breakfast. Yeah anyway you might be more interested in what we have been doing rather than the contents of our stomachs!..

City Centre: We started the trip in the centre of the city, it was all very modern with big shops and posh restaurants. The first night at the hostel we took advantage of a free tango lesson. Billy was pretty good and as we had to swap partners ended up dancing with some pretty ladies. I on the other hand was hopeless and put off further by the sleazy american dance partners I ended up with pressing themselves aganist me, yuk!

Sightseeing included a trip to the parliament buildings, a look at the Casa Rosada with the balcony from which Evita and Maradonna adressed the crowds, a look round a catholic church and a former convent. We also saw demostrations against the goverments treatment of Faulklands veterens (it being the anniversary of the start of the conflict) and chatted to a a veteran himself who was v. friendly, advised us on places to go and had no ill feeling towards the english anymore.

San Telmo: Half way through the week we moved to San Telmo, an older part of the city famous for its tango bars. From there we went into Boca which according the guide books had v.definate no go areas however it all felt very safe as it was match day and the streets were flooded with police. Managed to get tickets for La Boca vs Banfield. The stadium was amazing, we were seated right at the top with a fab view of the supporters groups, banners and the pitch itself. The stadium shook with the sound of chants, people jumping up and down and the drums of the supporters band.

On sunday we headed to the outskirts for the goucho fair for abit of entertainment, more empanadas and plenty of lazing in the sun. On sunday evening we returned to san Telmo where a fair was also well under way. We watched people of all ages tangoing, it seems that the younger people feel quite honoured to be asked to dance by older more experienced dancers. In between the dancing (which was open to everyone and Billy even made me get up and make a tit of myself) a professional couple showed off their moves. The music was varied, me and Billy particularly liked the electro tango which included a tango version of enjoy the slience by depeche mode!

Other highlights have included visiting Recoleta - the cemetry where Evita was buried, seeing the museum about her life, seeing a massive flower sculpture which opens its metal petals at dawn and closes them at dusk and just relaxing and taking things at a more leisurely place for a change.

Weath: Its hot. I wont rub it in too much because Billy´s mum says it snowed in Newark at the weekend.

People: really really friendly. Theyve helped us out at every opportunity when we have been lost/confused etc.

Hostels: again everyone is friendly and you get free internet access, towels, sheets and a hearty breakfast all for less than a fiver. The only downer is that most of the dorms we stay in are predominantly filled with men so it smells of boys!

Anyway, Im off to enjoy a last lazy afternoon in San Telmo before heading off on a 16 hr bus journey to Iguazu falls in the north of the country.

UNA CIUDAD DE ENSUEÑO

Hey! Hola a todos!

Esta mañana hemos llegado a esta fenomenal ciudad: Buenos Aires; preciosa Argentina!
He soñado con este momento desde que tenìa 12 años! Estoy aquì! Casi que no me lo creo.
De momento todo perfecto, esta noche degustaremos esa carne tan deliciosa que a todos encanta ( y a mì màs!)...
Ah Por cierto, nos ha tocado viajar en Bussines class, por fìn nos codeamos con la people de la high society jajajaja... Què suerte hemos tenido! Hacer 12 horas pràcticamente como si estuvieras en tu cama, y con eso de que el sillòn hasta masajes daba. Eso de la tecnologìa va muy ràpido. Ademàs las chicas de la tripulaciòn, sencillamente...ENCANTADORAS y ni què hablar del sobrecargo. Gente preciosa todas ellas. Ojalà volvamos a encontrarnos otra vez (y si es de regreso Mèxico-España, mejor)
Ya os iremos contando què tal va todo. De momento esto pinta de muerte! Super chachi piruli!

UNA CIUDAD DE ENSUEÑO

Hey! Hola a todos!

Esta mañana hemos llegado a esta fenomenal ciudad: Buenos Aires; preciosa Argentina!

Ah Por cierto, nos ha tocado viajar en Bussines class, por fìn nos codeamos con la people de la high society jajajaja... Què suerte hemos tenido! Hacer 12 horas pràcticamente como si estuvieras en tu cama, y con eso de que el sillòn hasta masajes daba. Eso de la tecnologìa va muy ràpido. Ademàs las chicas de la tripulaciòn, sencillamente...ENCANTADORAS y ni què hablar del sobrecargo. Gente preciosa todas ellas. Ojalà volvamos a encontrarnos otra vez (y si es de regreso Mèxico-España, mejor)

PRECIOSA BUENOS AIRES Y...SU GENTE (?)

Hey !! Hola a toda la gente trabajadora de Barcelona... Espero que todos esteis bien.
Nosotros, de muerte! Esta ciudad es en-can-ta-do-ra... no hay otra palabra que la describa mejor, ahora que, tan barata no es eh? Y la verdad sea dicha los argentinos no es que sean muy latinoamericanos, son asquerosamente europeos, por lo tanto: fríos y soberbios, la gran mayoría. Si no fuera porque estoy de muy buen humor ya hubiera repartido ostias a diestra y siniestra.
La comida: FANTASTICA; ayer el Carlitos y yo nos fuimos a un buffet libre de parrilla (lo siento por los que son vegetarianos) nos pusimos las botas entre costillitas, choricitos y otras cositas buenas que tiene la vaca...mmm....
Hemos recorrido el centro de cabo a rabo, hemos estado (por supuesto) en la Casa Rosada, no hemos podido ver a las madres de mayo, sólo se reunen los jueves. Nos hemos sentado en el Retiro a ver la gente ir y venir, y hemos caminado hasta la estación de Omnibus para comprar nuestro ticket para mañana, nos vamos a Mendoza. Finalmente no haremos Uruguay (es muuy caro el ticket, unos 200 euros) así que seguimos nuestro recorrido hacia Chile.
Esta mañana nos hemos tomado un café con leche y unos panes de dulce en un puestito callejero. He tratado de hacerle plática al señor que vendía, al principio estaba un poco frío, luego se soltó el chongo y nos preguntaba de todo. Pero en esos cinco minutos uno puede ver la tragedia de nuestra latinoamérica, unos tienen tanto, y otros, la gran mayoría; prácticamente no tienen nada. Y los que tiene un poco o mucho, no estan interesado en lo más mínimo en los que apenas pueden comer. Es una tragedia esto que le pasa al ser humano, ni siquiera se le puede comparar con un animal, ni siquiera tiene el instinto de la ayuda; los animales son mejores. Quien fuera tan civilizado como los animales!!
Después de comprar los billetes de bus (que no nos privamos de nada, vamos en suite y con asiento que se hace cama) nos agarramos el metro y nos fuimos al barrio de San Telmo, hoy hay mercadillo, así que nos comimos unas ricas empanadas y disfrutamos paseando por la calle viendo cosas y cosas, antiguedades, artistas, y más cosas.
Ahora estamos aquí en internet, explicando todo esto y viendo si podemos hacer una reserva de hotel en Mendoza, ya os contaremos qué tal por aquella parte. De momento aquí, en esta ciudad preciosa, todo super guapo y muuuuy agusto!

Cuidaros mucho gente! Y no nos olvidéis!!
