Majestic Ifugao

Banaue, Philippines

Majestic best describes the northern Philippines province of Ifugao. The famous province is a long drive north from Manila. After passing San Jose, the journey gets more exciting as the route follows the wide Pamapanga River Valley. It rises over the astonishing Dalton Pass, which is 3000 feet high, and descends into the Cagayan Valley heading into the Cordillera mountains.

One of the highlights of Ifugao are the Banaue Rice Terraces, which are vast, interconnected strips of rice terraces, which are recognized as one of the 5 beautiful sites in the Philippines. Because of its enormous beauty, the governor of Ifugao has made the preservation of this site the highest priority. The people, dialect, and the province are termed Ifugao which means People of the Earth. The people of Ifugao are known to be an independent agricultural society. For the Ifugao, their culture revolves around the rice, which is considered a prestige crop.
