An Explorer Reflects in Cairo

Lao Tzu once said that ‘a good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving’. And yet two hundred and eighty-seven days since setting forth from Cape Town I found myself, rather reluctantly I hasten to add, arriving in Cairo. And whilst I must admit I had a general intent on...

Walking like an Egyptian.

The ancient Pyramids are truly amazing but what is even more amazing is how the drivers in Cairo manage to stay alive on the roads... They are crazy!! The lines as we have been told and we believe them 100% are for decoration purposes only. People beep their horn every few seconds, to let...

Ok, so what have I been up to these past few days...? I can't really recall what exactly happened on which days but here is a synopsis of the three. Ronny, Vall and I hired a driver to take us to the west bank in Luxor to see the temples. We went to four and during this time met the funniest...

Day 17 - Best day ever - (7/4/2009)

So yesterday morning I paid 120 Egyptian pounds which was like 21 U.S. dollars or so for a private driver to a few main areas outside of Cairo. Later that day the manager of my hotel said there will be another couple joining me and asked if that would be ok. I said ya no problem so he cut my...

erfrischend, ueberaschend
